René Creemers

Many of you probably know Ren? Creemers from one of his recent appearances as one of the "Drumbassadors" (e.g., Modern Drummer 2003 Festival), but he's been around as an established artist and educator in Europe forever (it seems). A friend of mine recently sent me an out-of-print CD from the 80s that featured him on drums. The band is called "Blowbeat" and apparently made quite the impression around Germany/Belgium/the Netherlands in the late 80s. Creemers is really my vote for the 'most underrated drummer'.

Below is a link to one of the songs on the Blowbeat CD. Weird tune called 'Too Young' (must be a Dutch thing), but the drumming is phenomenal. Lots of interesting 'echo' patterns with snare and hh; very musical drumming.

Anyway, my two cents on one of Europe's best drummers.

Did you know that Ren? Creemers will be in Montreal at the Montreal Drum Fest next November 13 ? With the Drumbassadors (Wim de Vries) ? I am with you to say that Ren? is one of the great European drummers and educators.

I will see them live next Saturday, Nov. 13 in Montreal.

Hi,

The song that you let is very very Franck Zappa.
Reminds me some "reggae" that Vinnie recorded with Franck in "Joes's Garage".

Yeah, Vinnie has even said he's proud of his playing on that one. Apparently they had just "discovered" reggae and were experimenting with it.... [img]eek.gif[/img] His nuances and feel on that tune are ridiculous.

hey guys,

glad you liked the tune as much as i did. the jazz drumming program where Creemers teaches in Holland (in a city called Arnhem) is very Zappa oriented (among other things). My first drum teacher in Germany went to that program and studied with Rene Creemers and they have periodic 'drum offs' there between students and professors about who can play "the black page" better (it's usually the students [img]wink.gif[/img] ).

It's about emotion and vibes, not really the drumming, even if of course...
